Fleer Card Talk From 1994 Retailer Trade Show

Fleer Prints Were Inserted One Per Case in X-Men Ultra

This is one of the earliest videos promoting the Launch of Fleer Marvel Cards.  Marvel/Fleer needed a video sales presentation that Diamond could play at the 1994 Retailer Trade show, and might also play on the jumbotron at the ballpark during the 7th inning stretch.  Somehow Ted Turner (Fleer Sports Cards Spokesperson) managed to get baseball legend Phil Rizzuto to introduce the video.  (I never met Mr. Rizzuto. Ted brought me the track on an audio tape.)

Fleer Ultra X-Men was the first Marvel Trading Card set released by Fleer, since being purchased by Marvel.  The X-Men Ultra ’94 was a huge success, and went on to win an award from Diamond Comics for “Trading Card set of the Year.”

Aware that X-Men Ultra was going to be a tough act to follow, we decided to try to take trading cards to a new level of realism with – Flair Presents the Marvel Universe.

While creating Flair Presents the Marvel Universe (with the help of a very talented group of computer coloring artists) we also managed to complete other great trading card sets like Beavis & Butthead for MTV, Marvel Masterpieces Featuring the Hildebrant Brothers, X-Men Ultra II, the Inaugural Spider-Man Trading Card Set, and the old favorite (but now published by Fleer) Marvel Universe.

It was a great year for trading cards, and a lot of fun.
